How to get here

Toledo has perfect train connections with Madrid. Therefore, your best option to travel is Madrid and your flight destination will be Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport.

Transport from Madrid-Barajas Airport to the Atocha-train station (and reverse)

Madrid-Barajas airport is located in the north-east of Madrid, only 12 km from Madrid city center. The most comfortable option is to take a taxi to Atocha train station with a flat rate of 30€. The official taxis are white with a red line in the front doors. The taxi stop is just in the arrivals exit door. The travel is around 20 minutes but it depends on traffic.

Another option is to take the bus calledExprés Aeropuerto”. It is the quickest bus line connecting Barajas with Atocha train station. There is a stop in front of the exit door at each terminal (yellow post easily recognizable with the legend “Airport Express”). It runs from 6:00 to 23:30 hours every 15-20 minutes and the price is 5€. The travel is around 30 minutes depending on the traffic. Atocha stop is the last one on the route so you only have to sit and relax.

Other options are Subway/Metro and Suburban train/Cercanías (price around 3€). In the case of Cercanías, be aware that the stop is located in Terminal 4 of the Airport, so you have to take the internal bus from the airport if you arrive at a different terminal. Cercanías takes you straight to Atocha station and no train change has to be done. More information about Cercanías and the connection with the airport can be found here.

Metro is also an interesting option especially if you arrive at other Terminals (T1, T2 or T3). The only drawback is that you have to change the metro line several times and, if you carry your baggage is uncomfortable because there are many stairs. More info here.

Transport from Madrid/Puerta de Atocha to Toledo (and reverse)

The train connections are excellent between Madrid/Puerta de Atocha and Toledo using the Spanish High-Speed Train infrastructure (AVE Renfe). The railway station at Toledo is called Toledo. You have enough time to book your train tickets through the Renfe online store. The cost and duration of the trip are as shown in the table below (approximately, prices may suffer changes due to the demand).
